Staying Warm, Standing Tall: Best Flannels for Fall
When the temps drop and the leaves start to turn, it’s officially flannel season. That’s why I’m here rounding up some of my favorite flannels from brands that actually carry tall sizes—so you can stay warm, comfortable, and stylish all season long.
Whether you’re layering up for a weekend hike, heading out for a casual night, or just enjoying a bonfire in the backyard, these picks have you covered—literally.
Duluth Trading Company
Yes, their commercials are very strange, but they do have Tall sizes and have quite a selection of flannels including their Free Swingin’ Flannel with about 15 different color/patterns and also has 4.7 Stars of about 5k reviews (never know if those are real, but must be pretty good if they are).
Best for: Chopping logs lol. I would say causal, comfortable and outdoors
Tall Guy Note: I have not yet tried their flannels, but as mentioned the reviews seem positive.
Eddie Bauer
A good assortment of colors and patterns and typically you can find them under $50 with their sales, which is a steal. They are comfortable and long enough in the arms and overall length to definitely meet that causal look. They also have Flannel Shirt Jackets, if you are looking for something a bit more warm.
Best for: Weekend hikes, casual layering, or grabbing a beer at your local brewery
Tall Guy Note: Sizing can be a bit fickle with Eddie Bauer, either in sleeve length or how it fits around your shoulders and chest, so I recommend ordering a couple of sizes
L.L. Bean
Probably the most options when it comes to flannels, with all sorts of looks, feel, fit, types, and patterns. May be a little bit on the pricier side, but the quality is there and you’re bound to find a Tall size look and feel for you through their website.
Best for: A little more of the classic look and colors, but they do have a performance collection that has some more modern color/pattern designs.
Tall Guy Note: I haven’t fully tried LL Bean to know their size and fit, but will let you know soon!
REI
The REI Co-op brand has their own line of Flannel Shirts and although there aren’t a ton of color options, they are quite comfortable and where I got my first flannel. The XL tall was a great fit out of the box and it’s a little bit on the thicker side to keep you a little warmer.
Best for: Hiking, camping, or just chilling outdoors.
Tall Guy Note: If you find the right look for you, I’d wait till they have their Member Deals, so you at least get 20% off!
Poncho
A bit of a niche brand I came across on Instagram and just
recently started carrying Tall sizes. The consider their flannel
“Performance Flannel for the Modern Outdoorsman” and they
have a lot of cool little features, as you can see in the picture.
Best for: Fishing, Hiking and the Great Outdoors, but also casual.
Tall Guy Note: I’m excited to try them out, although a little limited
on Tall sizes at the moment.
